7 of the UK’s best gluten-free takeaways

Just because you avoid gluten doesn’t mean you have to miss out on the pure joy of the humble British takeaway. More and more options for gluten-free foodies are popping up all over the country, and we’ve put together a list of some of the most popular.

Sweet Mandarin, Manchester

This Manchester Chinese takeaway has an entirely gluten free menu that offers tempting dishes such as salt and pepper squid, cantonese style fillet steak and volcano beef. The talented sisters behind Sweet Mandarin have been awarded the ‘Best Local Chinese’ award on Gordon Ramsay’s The F-Word and an MBE for their services to food and drink.

GFQ, Huddersfield

GFQ, or Gourmet Food Queen, caters brilliantly to people with allergies or intolerances, but is an absolute paradise for gluten-free diners. Their entire menu is completely free of gluten and is packed full of wonderfully indulgent takeaway options, from burgers and kebabs to pizzas and puddings.

This gourmet fish and chip shop in Weymouth, which uses local ingredients and hand-filleted fish, offers the option of gluten-free batter for the wide variety of fish available. Whether you’re a fan of cod, haddock, bass, mackerel, plaice, rock or scampi, they’ll make it gluten free for you. Who says our options have to be limited just because we avoid gluten?

“From Bombay with love”, Dishoom is a renowned Indian restaurant chain that also happens to have a jam-packed gluten-free menu. There are some delicious options including curries and grills, as well as several gluten-free breakfasts, salads and sides. Takeaway is of course an option, but the party atmosphere at this place may well entice you out of the house!

Initially a US chain, Mexican grill Chipotle has recently landed in the UK, with several stores popping up across London. The fast-food-style service offers GF customers more control over what ingredients go into their meal, with dishes accredited by Coeliac UK. Crispy tacos, Mexican bowls and nutritious salads are all on the ‘Good To Go’ gluten-free menu, and are completely customisable, so you can build your perfect meal!

Vietnamese chain Pho list almost everything on their menu as gluten free and can make most of the exceptions gluten free to order – it’s a GF dream! Their noodle dishes look mouth-wateringly delicious, and the best part is that there are Pho locations all over the UK, so you’re likely to find one near you. If Vietnamese food is your thing, or you simply want to try something different, then Pho could be a big winner.
