FreeFrom Food Awards 2016 – Shortlist

The 2016 FreeFrom Food Awards, now in their 9th very successful year, are the industry’s only award for ‘free-from food’ – gluten-free, dairy-free, nut-free, soya-free etc. The FreeFrom Food Awards judges included professional foodies (manufacturers, chefs and cookery writers), medics (dietitians and nutritionists) coeliacs and allergy sufferers, free-from bloggers and a good sprinkling of ‘outsiders’ to benchmark the products against ‘normal’, non-free-from equivalents. See the awards site for more details.

From cashew cheeses to pea protein cooking mixes, gluten-free donuts to caveman granola, and sugar free tomato ketchup to gluten and dairy free ice cream cones, ‘freefrom’ manufacturers have been strutting their stuff at the judging sessions for this year’s awards with a truly amazing array of gluten, wheat, dairy, soya, nut, egg, corn and no-added-sugar offerings.

After two weeks of heavy-duty tasting and arguing the merits of gluten and dairy-free sausage rolls  over raw spirulina nibs, the FreeFrom Food Awards judges have chosen nearly 260 products to shortlist.

‘Excitingly, the quality and originality of the entries continues to improve each year ‘ says Michelle Berriedale-Johnson, director of the FreeFrom Awards who chairs the judging sessions, ‘which makes it ever more difficult for our 70 judges to choose the winners. But, after some intense discussions, they have!’

The winners of the 2016 FreeFrom Food Awards will be announced and presented with their certificates by Antony Worrall Thompson at an invitation-only party in London on April 26th.
